Abstract: 

The aim of this study was to investigate the psychometric properties of the basic psychological needs Satisfaction and frustration Scale (BPNSFS). Two hundred and fifteen students were selected from Shiraz University by means of multistage cluster sampling method, and following scales were given them to responds basic psychological needs Satisfaction and frustration Scale (Chen, et. al, 2015), To confirm Vatality of the Scale (Ryan & Frederick, 1997), Aggression Questionnaire (Buss & Perry, 1992), and Satisfaction with Life Scale (Diner, et. al, 1985). To determine the validity of the basic psychological needs Satisfaction and frustration Scale, confirmatory factor analysis by structural equation modeling using AMOS software and convergent and divergent validity methods were used. Also, positive correlation between needs satisfaction, state vitality, and life satisfaction, negative correlation between needs frustration, and these variables, and positive correlation between needs frustration and aggression, confirmed the convergent and divergent validity of this scale. To determine the reliability, Cronbach's coefficient alpha was used. Range of coefficients was 0. 68 to 0. 85. Results indicated that BPNSFS is a valid instrument for the use in Iranian society.

Abstract: 

Background Moral commitments of therapists is the important subject that attracted the attention of researches in the field of medical ethics. The aim of this research was to investigate the relationship between basic psychological needs and moral identity among medical students. Method The plan of this research is descriptive-correlation. Subjects were 140 medical interns of Shiraz University of Medical Sciences that selected by stratified sampling method from Shiraz public hospitals. For collecting data, using psychological needs satisfaction scale and self-important of moral identity scale. Data were analyzed by Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. Results Results of research showed satisfying needs of competence and relatedness have positive correlation with internalized moral identity. Also, satisfying needs of autonomy, competence, and relatedness showed positive correlation with symbolized moral identity. In addition, results of multiple regression analysis indicated that satisfying need of competence predicts internalized moral identity, positively. Satisfying need of relatedness predicts symbolized and total scores of moral identity positively. Conclusion In general, results of present research in line with early research evidence and self-determination theory, showed the importance of satisfying basic psychological needs in forming medical students’ moral identity.

Abstract: 

Alienation is a problem that some of the students are afflicted with during their study. Alienated students usually turn into adults who are afflicted with social alienation and lack of political and economic capabilities. According to self-determination theory, the living environment as well as basic psychological needs of the students affect their alienation. The main objective of this paper is to study the relationship between school culture with academic alienation in the light of the intermediary role of basic psychological needs. Hence, 289 students of intermediate schools of the city of Qum were selected through cluster sampling who responded to the questions of the following questionnaire: Academic Alienation, School Culture and basic psychological needs. Structural equation modeling was used to analyze the data. The results of the research indicate that basic psychological needs play an intermediary role in relationship between school culture and academic alienation. basic psychological needs has a significant negative effect on academic alienation and the effect of school culture on basic psychological needs is significant and positive. Overall, the tested model had sufficient fitness and predicted 60 percent of variance in academic alienation.

Abstract: 

Objectives: The present study investigated mindfulness and satisfaction of basic psychological needs among patients with Coronary Heart Disease (CHD). Method: A questionnaire consisting of Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS), needs satisfaction (NS), coronary prone behavior (CPB), anxiety, depression and perceived stress scales was administered to 101 CHD patients and 103 normal subjects. Collected data from both groups were analyzed by descriptive statistics, comparing of between group means and MANOVA model. Results: Data analysis showed that the group with CHD had lower levels of mindfulness and more coronary prone behaviors in comparison with the normal group, but there was no significant difference in basic needs satisfaction. The CHD patients had higher levels of anxiety, depression, and perceived stress as well. Conclusion: Individuals with CHD are not mindful of the somatic signs such as palpitation and dyspnea before the acute development of the disease, and show more coronary prone behavior in comparison with normal individuals.
